Giants Ace Tim Lincecum takes the hill tonight coming off a depressing Giants loss that saw closer Brian Wilson get hit hard. This is the second game of a four game series with the Mets. San Francisco, just five games back of division leading LA, needs to win this series to assert themselves as true contenders. They have Lincecum against Livan Hernandez tonight, The Unit against Johan Santana Saturday and Matt Cain vs Mike Pelfrey on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.
While tonight’s game is a must win with The Franchise on the hill, tomorrow’s and Sundays are more important games. The battle of hall of fame lefthanders should be an interesting one given the Mets lack of run support for Santana. If San Francisco can beat him that would be a huge morale boost.
The Sunday night game is especially key because it is on national TV and it is the last game of the homestand. If Cain can pitch well he puts himself on the national stage and builds up a great deal of momentum for himself and the team, which departs for San Diego and Seattle starting Tuesday. A big push this weekend could lead to some serious confidence for the team, which needs to make up as much ground on LA as it possibly can while Mannroid is out.
